Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
--"Why me?" It is the knee-jerk cry and human response to suffering, trial, and testing. The question resounds in my heart like a gong ever since the tick bite three years ago. Typically a cry associated with sorrow and tears, the why question is often selfish and inward thinking. On the other hand, the question can be twisted and flipped on its head when salted with joy and God's high calling. Today, the "why me" is turned right side up with a right perspective. When I heard that First Baptist Church of Shawnee, Kansas, took up a love offering for my treatment, that's exactly what I said. The church is filled with people. The needs are endless. Why give to me? The spreading of the Gospel and God's eternal purposes are so beyond me, beyond Lyme Disease, or anything I will ever be. I don't want to hinder the mission of the Church. Why me? I don't deserve such an offering by any means. Yet this is essentially what the Gospel should do to you. When you wake up in the morning, do you say, "Wow God saved a wretch like me. Why me?" Do you say, "God chose me out of the entire world before the foundation of the world for His eternal Glory. Who am I to deserve this? In this way, the First Baptist Church of Shawnee has reminded me of the message of the Gospel by blessing me beyond what I deserve. Last of all, Galatians says "to do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." In light of this, I am well taken care of by the family of God. My help comes from the Lord, and I belong to the family of God. God has given me brothers and sisters in Christ who care about me. What an encouragement! I thank God for FBC Shawnee with all of my heart.
I look forward to returning to you.
